Suicide Rate and the Holiday Season - Myth or Reality?

You would think with:
1. The economy being as bad as it is
2. Debt accumulating on shoppers' credit cards that can't afford gifts for family members
3. School being out for winter break
4. The war going on in Iraq and families losing loved ones daily
That it would be prime time for suicide.

This article debunks that "myth":
"Evidence suggests that holiday depression is about as real as Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer."
http://www.snopes.com/holidays/christmas/suicide.asp

Or is it really a myth? This article says otherwise:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/health/conditions/depressionchristmas1.shtml
This article describes me pretty accurately this holiday season.

What are the Germans asking to be put in their shoes this Christmas? Can someone tell me why the suicide rate is rising? Fröhliche Weihnachten!

Sort of on topic:

I was just talking about this the other day with Stef. Intelligent people have a hard time living in this world. Practically no one is as lost in thought as them, it's hard to find people that relate to them, and finding love is almost impossible because they are always thinking about other things - possibly past relationships or quantum physics. It's no wonder that the suicide rate is higher among this group of people.

In other news:
This has to be a joke (in Germany):

Dopey was too busy doing dope, Sleepy was too busy sleeping, and Grumpy just didn't want to show up - Bah Humbug!

Merry Christmas From One Misanthrope to Another

I was listening to KUOW and heard a great band called The Arrogant Worms.

Here are the lyrics to the song I heard:

"The Christmas Song

The table's set and the turkey's out
Christmas is here, let out a shout
The family's gathered all about
Christmas, Christmas is here!
Everyone is wearing big smiles
They all try to act nice for a while
Then George calls his in-laws vile
Christmas, Christmas is here!

Always at one time of the year
When everyone's problems disappear
And everyone smiles from ear to ear
Christmas, Christmas is here!

George has been drinking a lot
He just can't keep out of the sauce
He says his wife's been screwing her boss
Christmas, Christmas is here!
Margaret throws her food in his face
People are hungry, it's really a waste
Then she screams, "How does that taste?"
Christmas, Christmas is here!

Always at one time of the year
When everyone's problems disappear
And everyone smiles from ear to ear
Christmas, Christmas is here!

George picks up the carving knife
Wields it around and starts to slice
Henry cocks his shotgun twice
Christmas, Christmas is here!
Henry says, "Hey, what's the deal?
Just sit down and finish your meal
Or I'll pump you full of steel!"
Christmas, Christmas is here!

Always at one time of the year
When everyone's problems disappear
And everyone smiles from ear to ear
Christmas, Christmas is here!

Police arrive just after eight
Responding to a noise complaint
Open the door, what a grisly fate
Christmas, Christmas is here!
Fa la la and deck the halls
Blood was spattered on the walls
Merry Christmas, one and all!
Christmas, Christmas is here!

Always at one time of the year
When everyone's problems disappear
And everyone smiles from ear to ear
Christmas, Christmas is here!

Always at one time of the year
When everyone's problems disappear
And everyone smiles from ear to ear
Christmas, Christmas is here!"

Journal Transition

Due to socialjournal.com going offline, I am now subjected to using the most mainstream journaling site which I vowed to never use. It is too popular and pretentious for my liking, but it will have to do for the time being.

I will start this journal from where I left off on socialjournal.com, which may be a bit confusing for those who become friends during this transition.

I am a private person and write down many deep and personal thoughts on my journals. I don't like to worry about or deal with prying eyes or someone reading over my shoulder that I don't know, so to speak, so the majority of my entries (or partial entries) will be "friends only."
